Lafayette native Lindsey Conque, competing in the Miss Teen USA pageant this weekend in Shreveport, Louisiana, has made the top 10.
The Daily Advertiser spoke with Conque and her family back when she was named Miss Teen Louisiana USA in October.
Conque was excited to be able to go to the next level and represent the state in the Miss Teen USA pageant. Now, after several long months of preparation, the moment is here.
The finals in the competition take place today at 4 p.m. You can watch them live on the Miss USA website at missuniverse.com/missusa.
Paula Miles is the executive director of RPM Productions and in charge of the Miss Louisiana USA competition. Miles said Conque is in good spirits for the night's events.
"She is feeling fine, " Miles said. "And certainly she looks beautiful."
Conque's mother, Amy Conque, is by her daughter's side. She will be joined by the rest of the family, including Conque's father and brother.
Amy Conque said that although her daughter is not showing any signs of nervousness, the same cannot be said for her.
"I am nervous," Amy said. "But she does really well with this. She has only been in three pageants, so this is kind of surreal for us. But she is such a natural. She really is."
All eyes will be on the 50 teens tonight who represent every state in the country. It is a tough field, and Conque's mother said the teen is tired and ready to be back in her own bed. But Conque's family and coaches are confident the Comeaux High School student will make Lafayette proud.
"We are hoping for top 5," Amy said. "If she does that, it will make it all worth it."
